Day 1

John Stevens, an esteemed Film and TV Acting Coach with a wealth of experience in the industry, takes the lead on day one. Prepare scripts for Casting Director, Angela Quinn, to watch on Day 2. Delve into the art of character development, exploring the nuances that set actors apart. In addition, Angela will share invaluable insights into the audition process, helping participants understand what casting directors look for and how to leave a lasting impression. Description

In this series of classes, we will be working on basic TV & Film Acting Training. Actors will learn how to do a proper physical, vocal and mental warm-up before each class workshop or audition or performance. We will also be covering how to properly hit a mark, slating, and interview skills. We will be working on Commercial audition technique, wardrobe suggestions for auditions and headshot sessions, what to wear to a callback, basic film terminology, and agents versus casting directors. We will also learn to understand the different marketing techniques used in commercials so that you can better approach your auditions. We will be preparing some taste and react commercials, as well as agent expectations and everything you need to know about the casting websites, including casting networks actors access and casting workbook. We will also talk about a CAVCO numbers and understand how TAMAC and EIC play a big role in keeping actors safe. Students will film weekly assignments for critique and perform live on camera for John in class for immediate critiques. We will cover everything from SOC auditions (which means silent on camera), as well as one-liners, and fully scripted commercials. We will also have a brief introduction to voiceover acting, including commercial and animation. The last few weeks we will polish everyone’s performance pieces that will be presented in front of our industry professionals for the final showcase.

About the class

Over 12 weeks, this course will first cover the physical basics of accents – articulators, oral posture, and the music and rhythm of accents/dialects.  With these basics, we’ll go through ways to manipulate these sounds and ideas to change our natural accents.  Then we’ll break into the most called for accents in the market, namely “General American” and “Received Pronunciation.”  Depending on the group of students, we’ll then branch into the accents or dialects that will be most helpful for the actors to learn.  By the end of the course, the participants should know the process they’ll need to use to research, learn, and apply any accent they are called to perform.

Improv is a fun and energetic environment that encourages young students to use their imagination, creativity, and quick thinking skills to create scenes and characters on the spot. Taught by Isabella Shibuta, this class typically starts with warm-up exercises that promote teamwork and focus, such as group storytelling or improvisational games that involve miming or making sound effects. They also practice different character voices and physical movements to help them bring their scenes to life. An improv class for kids can be a great way to help young students build their self-confidence, develop their creativity, and have fun in a supportive and inclusive environment.
